Found
Found: Graffitti is one of my favourite artforms. It appears most unexpectedly, and I love to discover a new work in a familiar place that wasn't there last week, or to see various pieces change over time in the same place. This piece must have been in the alleyway for some time, but it was a really pleasant discovery walking home from the Arrow Bar the night the Invisibles were playing, on 6th, in a little side-street between Market & Mission.

Looking at the picture again it seems that it's doubly meaningful for this week's Theme Thursday. The little blue monsters in the lower right seem to be a little aghast at something they've found.

And, to become a bit more philosophical about it, what is photography after all, but a series of discoveries, of personal, often pleasurable, findings?

~I/eye dig urban art, grafitti, the color, passion and imagination of the artist...well spotted & a good find for the theme this week...photography, for me, is more than just " series of discoveries", it's about the moments that shape our being, the character and prose of a subject's presence, it's about documenting history, capturing the essence of the subject and discovering somehting unseen previously...~

Excellent pic for the theme. 'minds me of the movie '2001: A Space Odyssey' with the monkeys and the obelisk. There's some amazing graffiti in San Francisco. Here's some more pics of SF graffiti: http://heimatseeker.com/iwitness/archive/category/urban/

this is indeed a great image, and, unlike the others lol, I don't really like graffiti, usually just messes up walls

hey bt, philly's a great place for murals and urban art, yes? and yes, i do agree with your take on photography -- definitely something more than discovery, though I didn't mean to say tht all it was was just discovery...

unbrand, i appreciate the link to heimatseeker -- i have seen his graf collection, and it's lovely.

thanks yw and sandra for your nice words... we have some great specimens of graf here in the bay... i've got to post some of my other favourites soon...

Amazing photo! As you may have noticed ThemeThursday has taken an indefinite intermission. There is a strong interest in continuing a Thursday photo challenge. With the input of a number of participants, I have decided to take the initiative and set up one up. Its in test mode at http://www.spunwithtears.com/thursday.html. The test theme is "Anything".

I would greatly appreciate your continued participation. If you have the time, I would be grateful if you posted a link to the above web page and let me know if you had any problems. This will help me test things out before 'going live'. I will post next weeks theme in a day or so.
