Today Susan hosted a "get political" party with the Kerry Kit, a free DVD, courtesy of MoveOn.org. It contained several MoveOn.org ads, testimony from Jim Rassman and Del Sandusky (2 of Kerry's Swift Boat crewmates), a very long speech at the Rainbow/PUSH Convention from June this year, and the best part of it -- Kerry's riveting, eloquent 1971 testimony (at 27 years old) before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee as a representative of Vietnam Vets Against the War. The full text of that speech is available here, if you are curious about the speech and can't wait for the DVD (did I mention it's free?). We then moved on to something lighter -- two of the most recent editions of the Daily Show (reason enough for getting Cable turned back on; only this time we got a Tivo-like service from SBC), courtesy of Salsicha. Dear Mr. Kerry isn't as smooth as Clinton during these things, unfortunately, but he held his own pretty well. I ended the day catching Freestyle: The Art of Rhyme with Snores at the Red Vic. I have been trying to see this documentary for 2 years now; and was glad to finally get to see it. It's fantastic, a great documentary about this little known element of hip-hop -- spontaneous rap, poetry -- spoken, performed, battled on the fly. I have some other thoughts about it, but it's late, and needs to be saved for a later time: "Some people are good at it; some are not. And it's usually the ones who are good at [the written form] who are not as good at freestyle and vice versa..." It was a great weekend -- I got to indulge in all of my passions: good food, capoeira, cooking, politics, hip-hop, photography -- in these last few days... That surely doesn't happen too often...
