Turkey Day approacheth

I decided that, rather than going to Capoeira tonight, I had limited time within which to plan for Thanksgiving, and, considering that I may now have 9-10 guests, I had better start the logistical schemings. As we're having it at Jeff's, I'm going to have to plan ahead bigtime, and make at least a couple of dishes the day before and haul over all my dishes and other possible cooking receptacles and utensils to the Fulton Street House on the big day.

List of things to buy:
1) Stainless Steel Turkey Marinade/Brine Injector: after panicking slightly from calling first the Berkeley Sur La Table, then the one at the Embarcadero/ Ferry Building, I was relieved to find that the one on Maiden Lane actually had 8 left. I'm to go, possibly between 7-10am on Wednesday, to pick it up.

As with Halloween costumes, I'm bookmarking this site for "planning-ahead-buying" in the event that I lose my turkey injector again...

2) Basin to hold turkey whilst marinating
3) New oven thermometer -?

Menu
Because I adore mushrooms, I think the menu decidedly has a mushroomy-feel to it. All recipe links below are from Epicurious/ Bon Appetit.

1) Watercress, pear & walnut salad with poppyseed dressing
2) Turkey injected with Butter, honey & soy sauce (Mom's recipe)
3) Two kinds of dressing: either Wild Rice Stuffing with Wild Mushrooms, or Three mushroom dressing
4) Wild mushroom-shallot gravy
5) Mom's gravy (giblets, liver, heavy cream, the good stuff)
6) Mom's stuffing (vienna sausage, ground pork, braunschweiger, bread, raisins, + maggi seasoning ... yummmm...)
7) Cranberry-Walnut sauce
8) Mashed potatoes -- with marscapone cheese & olive oil
9) Green beans -- simple steam, then sautee w/ butter + garlic
10) Perhaps a sweet yam dish ... ?

Brian is bringing a polish dish; Karen & Manu pumpkin pie. Will ask other guests to bring breads, desserts, wine (Zins + Rieslings) &/or other starters. No hotdishes, tator-tots or otherwise, allowed. Posted by claudine at November 24, 2003 09:28 PM
