All Hallow's Night
A clear night -- a nice autumn night -- definitely different from last year when it was so bone-chillingly cold and wet. My first Halloween in the Castro, and so I was amazed at the hordes of people there... I loved the energy, the creativity, and was rather grateful for the general controlled randomness of it all. Nora & I shared many laughs that evening. It was exceedingly crowded in spots -- particularly the areas by the 3 huge stages that dominated the beginning, middle, and end of the castro section, but we let ourselves get carried along by the teeming crowds, and rarely were we overly annoyed or rudely jostled. People were exuberant, and occasionally rowdy, and we saw a fight break out, but for the most part people were generally smiley and well behaved. Perhaps it seemed that way since N & I made an early exit around 1115 -- we didn't stay that long to see the quantities of alcohol taking effect.
The pictures are not that great, unfortunately... I was once again, a little too distracted to concentrate on making them good; perhaps next year I'll have a better camera and better technique.
we decided to take MUNI that evening
the N line was packed
vikings & butterflies
the teeny part of the parade we managed to catch
castro geisha
one of my favourite costumes of the evening -- i {heart} skeletons!
these were one of the most amazing costumes -- huge spiky-looking blossoms of balloons
i love the castro!
