"There was sadism on the night shift at Abu Ghraib, sadism that was certainly not authorized," Schlesinger said. "It was kind of 'Animal House' on the night shift. Wrong, Mr. Secretary. You may be tough. You may be "mulishly independent", but the abuse and torture at Abu Ghraib is not like an animal house fraternity where participants have full choice over whether to victimize or be victims. Show me an Abu Ghraib prisoner who signed up for this kind of treatment and I'll show you a protest-free Republican National Convention.
