We are indeed having a bit of a summer here in San Francisco. It is a typical summer, with lots of fog and moisture and a bit of that typical damp san francisco breeze, especially if you live by the ocean. Walking out of doors in my neighborhood, you are likely to get somewhat deluged in tiny water droplets, especially if the fog is really bad. It is not entirely unpleasant. We have our sunny days as well, and lately it seems we've been having more sunny days than usual. We also have our micro-climate weather schizophrenia, where temperatures can be vastly different depending on which part of the city you're in; as well as crazy-quick changes of weather from one moment to the next. Last Saturday after class, and after a late-afternoon lunch with Pirata and Leo, I drove down to Ocean Beach and parked up by what used to be the Cliff House/ Sutro Baths. I made it down there around 6pm, and as I drew nearer to the coast, I saw more and more swirls of the grey misty stuff. By the time I reached the great highway, visibility was quite poor. It didn't seem to be a good day to try to see the ocean and take pictures, but I pressed on anyway. Surprisingly it was not as cold as it looked. I shivered mometarily when I emerged from the car, but then proceeded down the steps towards the baths. And was rewarded for my persistence. There was fog, yes, but it dissipated soon, and a beautiful bright summer dusk emerged with the sun beating on the water and the bluest of blue skies prevailing through the mist. It's truly amazing to think that the two photos above were taken on the same day. posted by claudine |Added at 4:26 PM| | photographs, cliff house, sutro
