Bad day turned not so bad
Today I realised that I didn't have my belt -- my capoeira cordao. Then it dawned on me that I had essentially left a whole uniform: shirt, pants, belt -- in a bag in the café bathroom this past Saturday night. And so I drove back to Berkeley and entered the academy, which had a large sign on the door saying that the café was closed, but that there was class at 6pm. I felt a bit like an intruder -- the only folks there were Mestres Deputado, Ra and Accordeon, and 2 students. I waited long enough for the Mestres to notice me, only to have M.Acordeon say that he had thrown out yesterday, 3 bagfuls of lost of found "junk." I don't know if Mestre will give me a replacement, and to train without a belt is almost like training without a leg or arm -- so much of your identity as a capoeirista is wrapped up in it.

And so I drove away, not having the heart to stay for class, and sought to console myself in the Berkeley Derby St. Famer's Market, which was one lucky point in my day. Lots of delicious organic goodies, most especially the greens! -- sorrel, lacinato kale, red, and yellow-stalked swiss chard, dandelion greens, mustard, collards -- if I had been more prepared I would have impulsively bought several bunches, but regretfully decided to leave them be. I just picked up several white nectarines, some sweet corn, and some absolutely gorgeous late morels.

On the ride home I got simultaneous calls from both Elliott and Snores, who wanted to see if I wanted to get some dinner and see Spiderman. My spirits lifted, and I ended the day on a happier note than when I started... I love my friends...
