We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day. Sure, it was windy and breezy as usual, but warm enough, certainly, and what could be more wonderful than to stroll along a promenade with good music and good food and drink and dancing and fun little booths of merchandise and overall bright blue happiness...
We were hungry when we got there around noon, and of course sought to purvey some comestibles as one of our first essential duties. The Jamaican Jerk Chicken was ubiquitous, but definitely very good as were the supersize pork kebabs. Brian had an unfortunate run-in with a renegade piece of chicken, but after some quality time with an alleyway dumpster, he was as good as new and was able to cheerfully finish his lunch and beer.
It was already crowded by the time we reached Fillmore & California, around 3pm. We were aiming to get to Broadway, the top of the hill, where there was a fantastic view...
As we headed up further away from J-town, the merchandise and stores got tonier, the streets cleaner, the buildings more patrician...
The top of the hill - Fillmore and Broadway. Of course, no SF view would be really all that complete without a No Parking sign...
By the time we made it down the hill back to California where Kim Nalley was doing her thang with a Nina Simone tribute, the streets were clogged tight. We couldn't move, so packed was the area surrounding the stage. So we stopped for a while, and listened, and eventually, after some 15 minutes perhaps, made our way slowly, with much nudging and jostling, out of the teeming multitudes. posted by claudine |Added at 1:06 PM| | personal, music, arts
