The good The bad The ugly Over the past year and a half, the Army has opened investigations into at least 91 cases of possible misconduct by U.S. soldiers against detainees and civilians in Iraq and Afghanistan, a total not previously reported and one that points to a broader range of wrongful behavior than defense officials have acknowledged. Kevin Drum points out that, via this article, evidence of torture at Abu Ghraib dates to two days after the 372nd Military Police Company arrived there. That's only two days. There's plainly no way that a bunch of MPs from Maryland decided to start abusing prisoners in bizarre ways within two days of arriving, which means (a) they got instructions from someone else, and (b) it had been going on for some time before they got there. Yeah, Kevin, we all want to know, too. I wonder if this guy will be able to get to the bottom of it. posted by claudine |Added at 1:18 PM| | politics
